Research Funding
The National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) invites grant applications from institutions/ organizations proposing to establish Centers of Excellence in Systems Biology. The goal of this initiative is to promote institutional development of pioneering research, research training, and outreach programs focused on systems-level inquiries of biomedical and biobehavioral questions within the NIGMS mission.
This is a list of NIH programs and initiatives with a preponderance of or a significant component of biomedical informatics and computational biology (BICB). For an update on funding of computational grant applications at NIH read the recent editorial in Biocomputational Review.
The Integrative Cancer Biology Program (ICBP): Centers for Cancer Systems Biology focuses on the analysis of cancer as a complex biological system. A cornerstone of the program is the development and implementation of computational models of processes relevant to cancer prevention, diagnostics and therapeutics. The integration of experimental biology with mathematical modeling will result in new insights in the biology and new approaches to the management of cancer. The program brings clinical and basic cancer researchers together with researchers from mathematics, physics, information technology, imaging sciences, and computer science to work on key questions in cancer biology.
